Loop-shaping for reset control systems

The ever-growing demands on speed and precision from the motion industry have pushed control requirements to reach limitations of linear theory. Nonlinear controllers like reset provide a viable alternative since they can be easily integrated into existing controller structure designed using industry-preferred loop-shaping techniques. However, currently, is achieved describing function (DF) performance analysed sensitivity functions not applicable for systems, resulting in significant deviation between expected practical results. This major bottleneck wider adaptation overcome this paper with two important contributions. First, an extension frequency-domain tools form higher-order sinusoidal-input (HOSIDFs) presented, providing greater insight their behaviour. Second, novel method that uses DF HOSIDFs open-loop system estimation closed-loop proposed, establishing first time — relation behaviour systems frequency domain. accuracy proposed solution verified both simulation practice positioning stage these results are further obtain insights tuning considerations controllers.
